Rainy weather does not mean you need to cancel the run or run inside. Running in the rain is lot of fun and you should take advantage of it. Following tips will prepare you for safe run in the rain.
Check for thunderstorms and downpours
Check weather for thunderstorm and downpour in the area. Avoid running in such weather.
Do not get wet till warmup is done
Do the warmup in covered area. If outside and it is raining use rain jacket and cap during warmup. Staying dry and warm till warmup is very important. Once warmup is done then enjoy running in the rain.
Do not overdress
Cloths gets heavier when wet. Dress light.
Use cap with brim
Rain falling directly on eyes gets irritating. Use cap with brim.
Be visible
Visibility is poor during rain. Use brighter cloths to get noticed easily.
Socks and Shoes
Avoid cotton socks or any socks if possible. It holds water and make it irritating. Prefer shoes which drains inside water. Sandals, aqua shoes or even barefoot running are better.
Few India specific precautions
Avoid touching electricity poles or cables
Do not step in the water if road surface is not visible. You may step on the potholes/manholes.
Watch out for falling tree or branches
Post Run
Immediately after run dry yourself completely.
Wear dry cloths.
If weather is cold then stay warm.
Perform cool-down stretches.
